I recently had a chance to take a look at PrestaShop 1.6 and create a few websites from install to finish.  I was impressed with how easy they have made things in the backend and it comes right out of the box with a versatile theme.

What is PrestaShop

PrestaShop is a free eCommerce website Content Management System or CMS.  It is quick to install and has a low learning curve for those eager to hit the ground running with their new online shop.

Product Additions

There seems to be a decent selection of addons, but I didn’t see as many templates available as one might expect with something intuitive.  Themes are priced comparatively with those of the Shopify platform in many cases.  Expect to pay if you want additional addons or themes.  Most everything I came across was premium.

A Few PrestaShop Features

  • Stock Theme Responsive
  • Multistore Management
  • Product Reviews
  • Customer Profiles
  • Inventory Management
  • Export Import Capable
  • Cross Selling
  • Downloadable Products Capable
  • Easy Sales Tracking
  • Fast Set Up!

Ideal PrestaShop User

In my opinion, PrestaShop would be a great option for those starting out into the world of eCommerce and wanting to avoid large monthly fees and costs of opening a site on some of the more popular eCommerce platforms.  It could also be something fun for any developers and designers out there.  I have always felt its far better to have all the code yourself rather than to work with a platform that only allows backend access.  I plan on working with PrestaShop more in the future and it’s worth checking out for those who have not.  It offers nearly everything that you could want in a brand new web store.
